Acuity was born from real challenges in medical education, grounded in research and a belief in human potential. Today, our work reaches around the world as we find new ways to help higher education institutions make better decisions across admissions, learner development, and program management.

2000
2000 – One45 begins at UBC
Faced with cumbersome paper processes, UBC medical education begins building a digital system designed around how programs actually work.

2004 – The work that becomes Casper begins at McMaster
McMaster researchers begin exploring how to understand applicants beyond grades and test scores when thousands compete for limited interview spots.

2010
2010 – Casper enters admissions
After years of research and validation, McMaster begins using Casper to bring personal and professional competencies into admissions decisions at scale.

2015 – An academic innovation grows beyond McMaster
Interest from other institutions leads to Altus Assessments, allowing Casper to move beyond McMaster and reach more programs.

2017 – One45 connects more of the learner picture
One45 expands beyond managing educational processes to help programs bring together and make better use of learner data.

2021 – Altus and One45 come together
Two Canadian companies rooted in medical education join forces, bringing together admissions assessment with in-program technology and insights.

2022 – Acuity Insights is born
Altus Assessments is renamed Acuity Insights, bringing together two companies under one identity.

2024 – Casper reaches one million registrations
An assessment created to solve a challenge at one medical school surpasses one million test registrations.
