This session explores how to ensure the pieces of your admissions process are put together in a way that fits your mission. Common mistakes and pearls will be discussed in the construction of admissions processes. Both academic and non-academic dimensions of admissions will be brought together and over the course of this session, linkage of your admissions process to your curriculum will be discussed.

2. Which professionalism tests are best for my program?

Construct contamination as a guide

“Construct” is the aspect of the individuals that you are trying to measure. No test is perfect, in the sense that every test format simultaneously measures bits you don’t intend to measure, i.e. contamination. Depending on your program’s specific needs and the characteristics of your applicant pool, the type and the degree of any one source of contamination might be acceptable, another one not so much. This webinar is designed to help you identify anticipated sources of test contamination as a guide to identifying tests that work for you, and those that don’t.

Resources, research and reality

This session explores the implications of resources and research and how to operationalize the most effective and efficient selection of trainees. Both academic and non-academic dimensions of admissions will be brought together to develop a better understanding of what it means to look at the whole trainee through the lens of your program’s mission. Over the course of this session, implications of the selection process to future trainee performance will be highlighted.

4. Can the MMI work for my program?

A practical approach

Multiple mini interviews have received significant attention, but less than ubiquitous implementation, for healthcare trainee selection. Its potential benefits, and the challenges to optimal, or even any use are reviewed with an eye towards improving an existing MMI, initiating its implementation, or deciding when not to use it, touching briefly as well on MMI in the age of COVID-19.

5. Unintended consequences of assessments

Hidden pearls and pitfalls when building or adapting your admissions program

This session brings to light both the positive and negative implications of unintended consequences in the construction of your admissions process. Admission processes are constantly evolving and changing, the current circumstances highlight the need to be responsive to the ever-changing needs of programs or applicants. Being aware these possible short- and long-term implications can allow in-course correction and adjustment when possible.

6. Can the SJT work for my program?

A practical approach

Situational judgment tests have become an “in” thing to talk about in the assessment of personal and professional competencies, including the selection of healthcare trainees. The creation and implementation of a SJT is surprisingly challenging for that purpose. This webinar explores those challenges and how that impacts the interpretation of the SJT literature in terms of use for healthcare trainee selection.
