The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) has announced a significant shift in curriculum data collection. As the standalone Curriculum Inventory Reporting (CIR) transitions to a new survey format with more diverse content, Acuity Insights is working to ensure that medical schools are well prepared for these changes and that our One45 partners can successfully navigate the transition to the new annual tool.

Understanding the SCOPE survey changes

Recognizing the implications of this change, we’ve taken proactive steps to analyze and understand the new survey’s structure and requirements. Our team attended the AAMC-hosted Town Halls for vendors and programs in 2023, and have analyzed the draft of the SCOPE (structure, content, organization, process, evaluation) survey to determine how One45 can best support your needs.

For the SCOPE survey, the AAMC has combined items from previously separate AAMC data collections (e.g., Curriculum Inventory, New Emerging and Evolving Demands [NEEDS] Survey, Regional Medical Campus Survey, and Simulation Inventory Survey), as well as new items. In addition, AACOM curriculum items from the AACOM annual survey have been included.

Completing the Survey

Given these changes, you are probably wondering what you can do to get started on completing the SCOPE survey. Here are our recommendations:

  1. Assign a project manager: You will need to assign a single person to be responsible for managing response collection from a number of different stakeholders within your program.
  2. Review the final survey: Assemble your key stakeholders to review the final survey together.
  3. Identify survey section and item owners: Plan out who will complete each section, or item, of the survey.
  4. Identify data sources: Identify sources (such as One45) and where you will be able to find information for each item.
  5. Use our SCOPE Survey Planner: Use this helpful resource to help you manage the overall project, and identify which data is available in One45, and where to find it.

Leveraging One45 for the New Survey

We’ve developed a SCOPE Survey Planner which shows how One45 can be used to complete the survey, indicating which reports and areas within One45 can provide the data you need to complete the survey.

This tool is designed to:

  • Streamline Data Collection: The planner offers a structured approach to gathering the necessary data, and from which data sources, ensuring you don’t miss any critical information.
  • Enhance Collaboration: By providing a clear roadmap, your stakeholders can collaborate more effectively, assigning responsibilities and tracking progress toward completion.
  • Reduce Overhead: With a clear plan in place, institutions can reduce the time and resources spent on data collection, allowing for a more efficient process. As well, the planner can be referenced in future years so that the effort involved in collating the data is greatly reduced.

The landscape of curriculum data collection is evolving, but with Acuity Insights and One45 by your side, you’re well-equipped to navigate these changes. We’re committed to being your trusted partner, providing the tools, resources, and expertise you need.
