Our History
2002
One45 was co-founded by Derek Hemmes, John Simms, and the University of British Columbia’s Dr. Ric Arseneau.
At the time, Dr. Arseneau’s Internal Medicine program was generating so much evaluations paperwork that his students and residents were slipping through the cracks of the process. One45 was born from that frustration.

2004 - 09
Fueled by the need for a holistic admissions method that screened applicants based on their professional competencies and interpersonal skills, beyond academic performance, Harold Reiter and Kelly Dore began research and development for a new, more holistic admissions assessment.

Casper is officially integrated into McMaster’s admissions process.

Interest in Casper builds.
Rich Emrich joined the team to help lead the creation of a business to commercialize Casper.
- The company “Altus Assessments” was born on September 19, 2014.

With a team of 8.5 people in its first year, Altus served a total of 21,447 applicants and recruited and trained hundreds of raters to evaluate the tests.

Company grew to over 60 employees, and had a total of over 100K applicants.
Launched two new assessments (Snapshot and Duet) to meet the needs of programs and the changing needs during the pandemic.

One45 grows from an evaluation-only system into an end-to-end medical education management platform that provides software tools to drive operations in health sciences education and fuel the analytics that enable continuous quality improvement.

Altus acquires One45, combining teams and technologies that, together, provide unprecedented support to higher education programs from admissions through graduation.
One year after the announcement of the merger between Altus and One45, the Analytics and Altus Insights platform is integrated and the company rebrands to Acuity Insights.
